Oconto Area Humane Society, Inc. News: Making a Difference, One Paw at a Time

Welcome to the latest update from the Oconto Area Humane Society, Inc.! As we move into the new year, we are thrilled to share some exciting developments, heartwarming success stories, and upcoming events that continue to support our mission of providing care, compassion, and advocacy for animals in need. We could not accomplish this without the support of our wonderful community—thank you for being part of our family!
Adoptions on the Rise: A Year of Second Chances
2024 has already been a year of transformation for many of the animals in our care. Thanks to the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters, we’ve seen a significant increase in adoptions over the past few months. From puppies and kittens to older dogs and cats, each animal that finds its forever home brings us one step closer to achieving our mission of reducing animal homelessness and providing lifelong, loving homes for every pet.
Meet Our Newest Arrivals
Every day, animals of all shapes and sizes come through our doors in need of care. In January alone, we welcomed 25 new animals, including dogs, cats, and even a few rabbits! Each one of them brings its own unique personality and backstory, but they all have one thing in common—they deserve a chance at a better life.
Some highlights include:
-
Luna the Shy Cat: Luna is a sweet, quiet tabby who loves lounging in sunny spots. She can be a bit shy at first, but with some patience and love, she’s sure to blossom into a wonderful companion.
Volunteers Make It Happen
We cannot thank our volunteers enough for the time, effort, and love they dedicate to the animals at our shelter. From walking dogs and cleaning kennels to hosting events and fundraising, our volunteers are the backbone of our operations.
Upcoming Fundraising Events: Your Support Makes a Difference
Our events are a big part of how we fund our programs and services, and we are gearing up for several exciting opportunities to get involved in 2024. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up:
-
Annual Pet Walk-A-Thon: Join us for a fun-filled day of walking, games, and community support! The walk-a-thon is an excellent way for pet lovers to raise funds for the shelter while enjoying the great outdoors with their furry companions. Be sure to keep an eye on our website and social media for details on registration and sponsorship opportunities.
-
Paws for a Cause Dinner & Auction: This annual event is one of our largest fundraisers of the year. Expect an evening of delicious food, live music, and exciting auction items, all in support of our mission to provide shelter, food, and medical care for animals in need. Tickets will go on sale soon, so be sure to save the date!
Animal Care Needs: Donations Make a Big Impact
As always, the generosity of our donors is vital to our success. Whether it’s a monetary donation or items from our wish list, your support directly impacts the care and comfort of the animals in our shelter.
Some of our most urgent needs right now include:
-
Food and Supplies: Canned dog food, cat litter, and bedding are always in high demand. We’re also looking for toys, leashes, and collars to keep our animals entertained and comfortable.
-
Medical Supplies: With many animals coming to us with medical needs, we are always in need of veterinary supplies and funding to cover medical treatments, spay/neuter procedures, and vaccinations.
Success Stories: From Sheltered to Loved
At Oconto Area Humane Society, we believe in the power of second chances. Our success stories are what keep us going. This month, we’d like to share the heartwarming story of Charlie, a senior dog who had been with us for several months before finally finding his forever home.
Charlie, a sweet and gentle older pup, had been surrendered to the shelter due to a change in his owner’s circumstances. He had some medical needs and required a little extra care, but his calm demeanor and affectionate nature made him a favorite with the staff and volunteers.
Conclusion: Together, We Make a Difference
As we continue into 2024, we remain committed to our mission of improving the lives of animals in our community. The road is long, but with your help, we can make a world of difference, one paw at a time.
Thank you to everyone who supports the Oconto Area Humane Society—whether by adopting, donating, volunteering, or simply spreading the word about our work. Together, we are creating a more compassionate world for animals.
